Natural Skincare Routine for Acne that Will Save Your Skin

Having acne is hard. It is one of the most emotionally and mentally, also physically traumatizing experiences one can go through.

Sometimes it rolls in during the menstruation cycle and sometimes it comes during puberty and promises you forever. The last kind of forever one ever wants!

If you are confused about where to start in your skin healing journey, then you have landed in the right place. Are you looking for a natural skincare routine to help heal your acne because you are tired of using chemical skincare that ruins your skin? Then we are here to help you!

Here is a 5 step natural skincare routine that can save your skin. Let's get to it then!

1. Cleansing:

If you have acne, there is a 100% chance that your skin is already irritated, and using a harsh face wash is the worst thing to put on your face when your skin is irritated. Using a gentle and natural cleanser is the way to go.

Natural cleansers or natural skincare products don't have any kind of chemicals in them so they don't leave your skin irritated. There are two ways you can go about cleansing your face.

"If you have acne, there is a 100% chance that your skin is already irritated."

If you wear makeup then using an oil-based cleanser should be your first step. An oil-based cleanser breaks down the makeup and also helps get rid of the oils and other oil-based gunk such as moisturizer and sunscreen and more on your face.

The next step should be using a water-based cleanser. A water-based cleanser breaks down all water-based gunk such as sweat and water-based moisturizer. It also goes deeper into your pores and cleans them further.

If you don't wear makeup, it's still better to use the oil-based cleanser as you might still have some oil secreted by your pores on your face and also products like sunscreen.

2. Face Masks:

Face masks are great tools to get rid of acne.

They help get rid of all the gunk within your pores. Face masks trigger a process called purging. Purging pushes out all the gunk within your pores to the upper surface of your skin. Purging also results in more time at the start as the process pushes out gunk to the outer surface. But with time it helps in clearing the skin.

There are also other types of masks that provide benefits such as soothing the skin and helping it calm, providing hydration to the skin.

We recommend the CHOCOLATE TRUFFLE COLLAGEN MASK by Lovinah.

3. Serums:

The serum is the 'all-rounder' player in the game of skincare. Need hydration? There's a serum for that. Skin is irritated? There's a soothing serum for that.

Worrying about skin ageing? There's an anti-ageing serum for that. You see there's a serum to save the day for every problem you have. If you have acne, using a serum with active ingredients is a great solution.

Active ingredients such as AHAs and BHAs gently exfoliate the skin and get rid of dead skin cells that sit on your face causing more acne.

Regular exfoliation is great to treat acne. It is recommended to exfoliate your skin not more than two times a week. If you have sensitive skin then exfoliating once a week should be good.

Remember don't exfoliate too often as it leads to irritation of the skin and further causes more acne. It is better to use a chemical exfoliant than a physical one as a chemical exfoliant gently affiliates the skin and doesn't irritate it if used properly.

While on the other hand, a physical exfoliant needs to be rubbed on the skin which is not good as it can irritate the acne, and if you have acne which is full of puss then physical exfoliating can even pop it, which may result in dark spots and discomfort.

What's that one thing that we miss when we are dealing with acne? It's the glow on our skin, right? It's as if acne takes away all of it.

4. Use a Moisturiser:

A moisturiser helps in calming the skin. And it is extremely important to keep your skin hydrated when you have acne.

Using a natural moisturiser is better than a chemical moisturizer as your skin might be allergic to some of the chemicals present in a chemically curated skincare product. Which is the last thing you want while already suffering from the physical pain that acne brings.

Natural moisturisers have ingredients such as aloe vera, turmeric - a great healing ingredient, and willow bark which has amazing calming properties.

5. Never Skin Sunscreen:

Sunscreen is probably the most important skincare product. It helps protect you from the harmful rays of the sun and has other amazing benefits.

Sunscreen also helps in treating post-acne hyperpigmentation. If you have a solid skincare routine but don't use sunscreen then we're sorry to say that your skincare doesn't work.

Sunscreen acts as a barrier between your skin and the sun. If you are using any kind of active ingredients on your face such as AHAs, BHAs, lactic acid or an ointment such as tretinoin then using sunscreen is a must as your skin is highly sensitive during this period. Active ingredients make your skin much more sensitive to the sun's rays and cause even more harm.

Hyperpigmentation is furthermore triggered by UV rays and the spots can even get darker. All this can be avoided by using sunscreen. Using a natural sunscreen, preferably mineral skincare is a better option. Sunscreen stays on your skin for hours, so using a natural mineral sunscreen is better as it is not harmful to your skin, unlike chemical sunscreen.
